Getting Ready To Go Home!

It’s our fifth day back ‘across the street’ in our apartment, and James has received the ‘all clear’ to be able to return to Winnipeg. This brings up many emotions – delight, excitement, and gratitude, alongside a certain amount of anxiety as we make arrangements and confirm after-care plans for back home.

I’m stretching my mind to think of any metaphor or comparable past experience. Nothing quite fits. It’s as if we’ve been in an alternate reality, in a bubble on a different planet, with intense impacting experiences, intimate moments with some of the medical team  like a bunch of brief ‘new best friends’, maybe a bit like summer camp. As I write this now, I imagine a prolonged AGPA conference, the group therapy experience that I attend for a week each year.

It’s time to shift gears and re-enter our regular orbit. Coming home will be unique. A new rhythm as James makes his way to recovery and then through cardiac rehab. His doctors say that in six weeks post-op, he’ll be about 80% mended from the surgery, but it will take about three months of rehab. until he’s back to normal capacity.

So our story morphs.  I’ll update at the end of the week once we’ve made the transition and have our bearings.

I’ll close with a few images that stand out when I reflect on ‘my summer vacation’, July, 2025.

With love and Gratitude,

Joan-Dianne
