A Very Big Day

Hi again,

A very big day!

We made it across the street, back to our apartment, with much hubbub and mixed emotions.

The concern about infection has settled down, but instead we understand that James’s high white blood cell count is connected to his underlying chronic CLL condition which has been stable for a decade or so, (chronic lycophytic leukemia). Likely this has just been stirred up by the disruption of the surgery. It can be followed-up back in Winnipeg.

How’s he doing?

He’s very tired from the day’s events. We’re aiming for him to walk, assisted with a walker, for five minutes, four times each day. But with today’s extra events, we only managed three of these athletic feats.

It’s amazing to me how complex James’s post-op care is – my goodness – all the paraphernalia, the timing of medications – and who ever thought one would require six separate face cloths to tend all the incisions? Sorry, too much information?

That said, we are grateful to be at this next stage, and he’s starting to eat at bit of home-cooked comfort food.

We appreciate all the personal and blog messages very much.  Sorry to not be able to respond individually, but please know that your support is incredibly uplifting.

Stay tuned.

Love,

Joan-Dianne

  1. Hi guys. I am so v. happy that you are settled into your home away from home. I have been following these blogs with quiet and hopeful anticipation. It is good to hear that a successful hospital exit has been accomplished and that you are now at the next phase. Congrats!

I know you have a big journey ahead of you. You have lots of people sending loving messages and I will add them as well.
Sending love and energy your way💜

  2. Thank you Joan-Dianne for these updates.
It is very reassuring to hear from you as we sit in our far away chairs – sending our love ❤️ and feeling our deep concern.
Looks like the move went smoothly and it must feel good for you to be together in your comfy home away from home.
You will probably find the care tasks much easier and routine as the days go by.
It is so good to hear of the progress!!
    Love you both sooooo much!

  3. Hello to both of you! I am just back from Kelowna and Sadie is back in Edmonton now. Dropped her off yesterday. Nico is with his auntie in Miami – – – Manitoba! He’ll likely be there a few more weeks when I assist with his transport back home.
I didn’t have my computer in Kelowna so have been busy catching up with your journey. I am so relieved and thankful for the both of you. I can well imagine naps are an important part of your journey as you each walk through your own recovery process.
Gentle hugs to both of you!
